Line a baking sheet with nonstick baking paper. Whisk the egg whites in a large bowl until they form soft peaks. Whisk in the sugar, a teaspoon at a time, until it has all been added and you have a thick, glossy meringue mixture. You should be able to hold the bowl upside down without the mixture falling out.
Use a teaspoon to place a meringue head on a baking sheet, then use a tablespoon for the snowman's body. Repeat to make 9–12 snowmen. Attach currants for their eyes and pieces of glacé cherry for their mouths. Give them buttons down their fronts using more currants or pieces of mixed peel.
Bake in a preheated oven, 110°C (225°F), Gas Mark ¼, for 45 –60 minutes or until the meringues are firm and may be easily peeled off the paper. Allow to cool on the baking sheet.
