Individual Pear Crumbles with Flapjack Topping

  • 75 ml (3 fl oz) good-quality apple sauce
  • 4 Conference pears, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 50 g (2 oz) soft brown sugar
  • 75 g (3 oz) plain flour
  • 50 g (2 oz) rolled oats
  • 75 g (3 oz) butter
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • Put the apple sauce, pears and cinnamon into a small saucepan and gently cook for 10 minutes until softened. Spoon the mixture into 4 ramekins or ovenproof teacups.
  • Rub together the sugar, flour, oats and butter to make a lumpy mixture. Stir in the golden syrup. Scatter on top of the fruit and bake in a preheated oven, 200°C (400°F), Gas Mark 6, for 15 minutes until golden and bubbling.
