500 g (1 lb) mixed berries, such as black and redcurrants, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries
1 teaspoon orange blossom water
1/4 teaspoon mixed spice
1–2 tablespoons soft dark brown sugar (optional)
200 g (7 oz) crunchy oat cereal, such as almond and raisin
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F), Gas Mark 4. Wash and hull the fresh berries, if necessary.
Place the berries in a large bowl with the orange blossom water, mixed spice and sugar, if using, and toss until well combined. Tip the coated fruits into an ovenproof dish, then sprinkle with the oat cereal over the fruits, pressing down to flatten.
Bake in the oven for 18–20 minutes until golden and crisp, then remove from the oven and serve immediately.
