Dates with Rosewater and Milk

  • 225 g (7 1/2 oz) ready-to-eat pitted dates
  • 75 ml (3 fl oz) rosewater
  • 125 ml (4 fl oz) chilled milk
  • rose petals, to decorate
  • Place the dates in a shallow bowl, pour over 2–3 tablespoons of the rosewater, cover and chill for 10–15 minutes.
  • Drain the dates and pat dry with kitchen paper, then place in a serving dish. Put the remaining rosewater and the milk into separate small glass or china bowls.
  • Arrange the dates, rosewater and milk on a tray and decorate with rose petals. To eat, first dip a date in the rosewater, then into the milk. Serve with tea.
