Beat together the margarine and sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy, then beat in the egg and measurement water.
Sift together the flour and bicarbonate of soda into the bowl, adding any bran in the sieve. Add the oats, apricots, figs and seeds, then fold all the ingredients into the margarine and sugar mixture.
Place walnut-sized pieces of the mixture on baking sheets lined with greaseproof paper or nonstick baking paper and flatten them slightly with the back of a fork.
Bake in a preheated oven, 180°C (350°F), Gas Mark 4, for 10–15 minutes until golden. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
